Sri Lanka captain Jayawardene drops English county spell

Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene will not be able to play for Derbyshire as planned because of changes to other playing commitments, the English county side said on their Web site (www.derbyshireccc.com). The batsman had been scheduled to play from late April to mid-July but the move of the Asia Cup to June and changes to India’s tour of Sri Lanka meant there was too little time to make a shortened contract worthwhile, the club said.
