Khel Ratna Award the Highest Sporting Honor of the Country

 Khel Ratna Award, Dhoni, Rajiv Gandhi, CountryNew Delhi August fourth India ODI and T20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is to be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award the highest sporting honour of the country for his services to the game of cricket. He is the second cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar who won it in 1998 to receive the coveted award and that puts him in the annals of cricketing greats.

BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said the board had forwarded its recommendation to the sports ministry well in advance. Yes we had forwarded Dhonis name for the countrys highest sports award for 2007 Shetty told reporters and under Dhoni India won the tri-series in Australia and also the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa. The President will give away the award along with Arjuna and Dronacharya Awards at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Aug 29 and Since its inception the list of Khel Ratna awardees also include Viswanathan Anand Chess Geet Sethi Billiards K Malleswari Weightlifting Leander Paes Tennis N Kunjarani Weightlifting Jyotirmoyee Sikdar Athletics Dhanraj Pillay Hockey P Gopichand Badminton Abhinav Bindra Shooting Anjali Bhagwat Shooting Anju Bobby George Athletics Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore Shooting Pankaj Advani Billiards And Snooker And Manavjit Singh Shooting.
