Hussey at top in ICC ranking

February 1st, 2010

Australia’s Michael Hussey the top class and matured performance take him to the top of ICC Player Rankings for ODI batsmen. He deserve this as real middle order backbone for Australian batting lineup.

According to the new rankings issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, Hussey scored 220 runs at an average of 73.33 in the series which helped him go ahead of India captain MS Dhoni.

The 34-year-old Western Australian had first occupied the top spot after the ODI against the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur in September 2006 before slipping down the order during the World Cup 2007 in the West Indies.

Besides Hussey, Australia vice-captain Michael Clarke has also gained two places and has jumped from 18th position to 16th spot after scoring 173 runs in the series. However, rival captains Ricky Ponting and Mohammad Yousuf have slipped in the order. Ponting, who scored 125 runs in the series, has dropped four places to eighth spot while Yousuf has slipped three places to 18th position after managing just 81 runs at an average of little over 20.

Australia’s Cameron White and Pakistan’s Umar Akmal are the biggest movers in the latest rankings with both the middle-order batsman achieving their career-best rankings. White, who finished the series as the leading run-getter with 245 runs, has rocketed 20 places to share the 23rd spot with England’s Kevin Pietersen while Umar has jumped 18 places to occupy 38th spot after scoring 187 runs.

Australia’s Shane Watson has also improved his ranking by two places and is now in 25th position but Pakistan’s trio of Shoaib Malik, Salman Butt and Younus Khan have slipped in the rankings. Shoaib has dropped three places to 27th position, Salman has fallen five places to 31st spot and Younus has slipped six places to 39th spot.

In the rankings for ODI bowlers, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi has returned to the top 10. The wrist spinner, who took six wickets in the series, has jumped three places to ninth spot. However, off-spinners Nathan Haurtiz of Australia and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal have dropped to 20th and 21st spots respectively after slipping four places each. Watson continues to inch towards a place in the top 20 with a jump of six places to 24th spot while Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif has vaulted 15 places to sit in 29th position.

Clint McKay, who was the most successful bowler of the series with 14 wickets, has rocketed 198 places to share the 59th position. Meanwhile, in the ODI Championship table, Australia have opened up 12 points gap with second-placed India after it earned three ratings points for winning all the five matches of the series. In contrast, Pakistan have conceded four ratings points and is now on 104 ratings points — four behind sixth-placed Sri Lanka and 28 ratings points ahead of eighth-placed West Indies.

Shoaib Malik will lead Pakistan in sole T20 against Australia

February 1st, 2010

Shoaib malik has been appointed for the sole T20 match against Australia. earlier he was sacked by the PCB for poor leadership qualities but again as no choice left he has been appointed as captain. Shahid Afridi who is the t20 captain of Pakistan has been ban by ICC for tempering the ball.

Afridi, Pakistan’s stand-in captain, was caught by television cameras chewing the ball during Pakistan’s fifth and final One-day International against Australia at the WACA on Sunday night.

“Shoaib Malik has been appointed as captain for the Twenty-20 against Australia in the absence of Shahid Afridi,” PCB announced in a brief statement on Monday. Just a year ago, Malik was sacked as Pakistan captain after leading his team to an embarrassingly one-sided ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka on home soil last January.

At that time, Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam and manager Yawar Saeed described Malik as a ‘loner’ and recommended that he should be replaced with Younis Khan as captain.Younis did succeed Malik as captain but after leading Pakistan to a memorable title-winning triumph in the ICC World Twenty20 championship in England last summer, he decided against carrying on and stepped down as skipper last November. He was replaced by Yousuf, who led Pakistan on the twin tour of New Zealand and Australia.

While Pakistan have been pondering about having a new captain following Mohammad Yousuf’s poor captaincy in Australia, Malik was nowhere in the picture as far as the list of possible candidates was concerned.

However, with Yousuf and Younis not in the Twenty20 squad and Afridi ineligible for the tour-ending MCG clash against the Aussies, the PCB didn’t have many players to choose from.According to insiders in the Pakistan team, the name of Test vice-captain Kamran Akmal was considered but the fumbling glovesman was overlooked because of his poor showing on the tour of Australia.

The option of appointing opening batsman Salman Butt as captain was also discussed. Even Mohammad Asif, the fast bowler who briefly served as Pakistan’s vice-captain two years ago, got a mention but in the end the PCB think-tank voted in favour of Malik.

Ironically, Malik is quite a controversial figure within his team these days. There has been a whispering campaign in the national cricket circles suggesting that Malik could be the man leading a lobby in the Pakistan team that plotted the downfall of Yousuf in Australia. In fact, sources close to Yousuf claimed that the senior batsman suspects that some of the players including Malik deliberately under-performed in Australia where Pakistan lost the Test series 3-0 and the one-day series 5-0.

Intenational cricketers should buycot IPL

January 21st, 2010

All International cricket players and cricket board should ban Indian Premier League (IPL). It is a shameful decision of not including the Pakistani players through shameful act of pressurizing the team management to not bid for the T20 specialists Pakistani players. The politics should be away from cricket as cricket is game for peace and love.

This is a time for international players association to act and save the prestige of cricketers and pride of the game. It is really shameful when the cricket fans are being stopped to watch the great display from the current great T20 players. The cricketers have country stamp but not the cricket. It should be carry on without prejudice.

Today it is happening to Pakistan and in future it can happen to other players too. Indian cricket board has members whose thinking is based on racism and hatred while sports does not allow such act because sports present not the nations only rather humanity too.

Recently there were some people in India who were trying to threat Australian players to stop them of taking part in IPL. Instead of banning and threatening the cricketers the cricket should be free of any negative acts. The board of Indian cricket should think again to re auction the players and give a relief to cricket fans.

On the other hand the association of cricketers should take necessary steps to avoid such happening in future to make sure cricket available for all.

Ponting and Clark peg far behind Pakistan

January 15th, 2010

Ricky Ponting and Clark stand of over 300 runs peg behind Pakistan and now according to the situation it will be very difficult to save this test as Pakistan are already 4 down for 93 at the close of day 4.

Pakistan cricket coach Intikhab Alam has said that Pakistan could still win the third and final Test against Australia if senior players deliver some big knocks. Alam agreed that the hosts have placed themselves in a comfortable position by posting a huge first innings score, but expressed the hope that the Pakistani batsmen would reply solidly.

“It’s far from over. There are still four more days to go in this Test. It’s quite a flat wicket and I’m confident we will also score some runs here. What we need is a couple of big knocks from our seniorplayers and then anything can happen,” The News quoted Alam, as saying.

Replying to Australia’s mammoth total Pakistan were 54 for no loss till the reports last came in. Pakistan is looking to salvage some pride by winning the third Test to avoid a 3-0 whitewash in the series.

Australia ride on Pakistan nerves to clinch the lost match

January 6th, 2010

The brilliant cricket displayed ended in few hours when Australia bowled out Pakistan in a chase of only 175 runs. This was the golden chance which Pakistan missed it. Pakistan got oppurtunity to level the series by winning this match, at one point it seemed to be the big margin victory but later it turned other way and success kissed Australia leaving behind Pakistan hopes.

A ninth wicket partnership also turned this week’s match. Australia led by 51 runs when Peter Siddle joined Mike Hussey at the wicket. They added 123, Hussey completing an innings of 134 not out, to leave Pakistan what still looked an extremely modest target of 175.

Pakistan was all out for 138 after it collapsed against spinner Nathan Hauritz, who took five wickets.

This was a still more remarkable reversal, and consequently even more shattering for Pakistan, than Watkins’ single day of glory. That was the final defeat of a series already lost. Victory on Wednesday would have tied the current series at 1-1 with the decider at Hobart, starting Jan. 14, still to come. Instead Pakistan goes to Tasmania with the series lost and its run of consecutive defeats by Australia extended to 11.

Pakistan dominated this week’s match from the start. Mohammad Sami, a bowler recalled after a two-year absence, blew away Australia’s first three batsmen for 10 runs. It looked like a remarkable piece of redemption. If Watkins is a candidate for the worst test bowler of the last 50 years, Sami leads a parallel category — least successful bowler talented enough to win frequent recalls. His 84 wickets in 34 tests have cost more than 50 runs apiece, the worst average of any bowler who has taken more than 50 test wickets.

Australia was bowled out for 127 with Mohammad Asif, who has a vastly superior record but is another candidate for redemption after a series of drug-related infractions, taking six wickets.

When Pakistan replied with 333 in its first innings victory appeared certain. Shane Watson’s defiant 97 when Australia batted again seemed merely to be delaying of the inevitable, and the latest landmark for a fast-rising talent with a propensity for falling in just short of a century — this was his fourth score between 89 and 97 in his last four matches.

Asif and Sami bowled out Australia

January 3rd, 2010

Seamers of Pakistan bowling attack out class Australian batting and bowl out the host for only 127 in sydney Australia. First Muhammad Sami and then Muhammad Asif bowling was unplayable for the strong Australian side and the wickets fell very quickly and the whole batting ended despite rain interruption.

Asif returned his career best six for 41 runs. The hosts, after electing to bat in rain-delayed match, lost their first two wickets for three runs. Sami was also playing a test match after a long rest, he was requested by skipper Muhammad Yousaf to the selection committee. he proved good as the first three batsmen were targeted by him.

The bowlers did well and now is the turn of Pakistan batsmen to get a good lead and put Australia under pressure to win this match and level the series.

December 25th, 2009

Shoaib Akhtar is in media again by recent comments he gave on coaches in cricket. He said the coaches are being paid heavily which is unnecessary while the performance of the team is due to the hard work of players. The teams can win without coaches too. Roach should not have been given out

December 19th, 2009

Roach should not have been given out because replays didn’t show an edge. I don’t think that’s how it works. Bowden gave him out on the field and since replays did not prove that he didn’t nick it, the on-field decision should stay. The irony is that, if Bowden had given him not out, and the Australians had asked for a review, Roach might well have been given not out after the review because replays didn’t prove that he was out. It’s complicated, this UDRS. I couldn’t tell whether he nicked it or not. Hot Spot didn’t show much, but it often doesn’t pick up faint edges. This debate will rage on and on …

They are showing Snicko now and there’s a faint indication of an edge. Ever so faint, it could have been an edge, it could have been something else. I guess only Roach will really know.
