Shoaib Malik will lead Pakistan in sole T20 against Australia

February 1st, 2010

Shoaib malik has been appointed for the sole T20 match against Australia. earlier he was sacked by the PCB for poor leadership qualities but again as no choice left he has been appointed as captain. Shahid Afridi who is the t20 captain of Pakistan has been ban by ICC for tempering the ball.

Afridi, Pakistan’s stand-in captain, was caught by television cameras chewing the ball during Pakistan’s fifth and final One-day International against Australia at the WACA on Sunday night.

“Shoaib Malik has been appointed as captain for the Twenty-20 against Australia in the absence of Shahid Afridi,” PCB announced in a brief statement on Monday. Just a year ago, Malik was sacked as Pakistan captain after leading his team to an embarrassingly one-sided ODI series defeat against Sri Lanka on home soil last January.

At that time, Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam and manager Yawar Saeed described Malik as a ‘loner’ and recommended that he should be replaced with Younis Khan as captain.Younis did succeed Malik as captain but after leading Pakistan to a memorable title-winning triumph in the ICC World Twenty20 championship in England last summer, he decided against carrying on and stepped down as skipper last November. He was replaced by Yousuf, who led Pakistan on the twin tour of New Zealand and Australia.

While Pakistan have been pondering about having a new captain following Mohammad Yousuf’s poor captaincy in Australia, Malik was nowhere in the picture as far as the list of possible candidates was concerned.

However, with Yousuf and Younis not in the Twenty20 squad and Afridi ineligible for the tour-ending MCG clash against the Aussies, the PCB didn’t have many players to choose from.According to insiders in the Pakistan team, the name of Test vice-captain Kamran Akmal was considered but the fumbling glovesman was overlooked because of his poor showing on the tour of Australia.

The option of appointing opening batsman Salman Butt as captain was also discussed. Even Mohammad Asif, the fast bowler who briefly served as Pakistan’s vice-captain two years ago, got a mention but in the end the PCB think-tank voted in favour of Malik.

Ironically, Malik is quite a controversial figure within his team these days. There has been a whispering campaign in the national cricket circles suggesting that Malik could be the man leading a lobby in the Pakistan team that plotted the downfall of Yousuf in Australia. In fact, sources close to Yousuf claimed that the senior batsman suspects that some of the players including Malik deliberately under-performed in Australia where Pakistan lost the Test series 3-0 and the one-day series 5-0.

Pakistan Wicket keeping job still a suspense

January 10th, 2010

Kamran Akmal poor show in Sydney test and PCB senseless quick decision of sending Sarfraz to Australia put captain and team management in trouble as they still consider Kamran Akmal as no. 1 choice for keeping. Kamran Akmal previous performance has been ignored, Pcb thinks that he was the main culprit in losing the Sydney test while the other factors are being ignored by the decision maker who sent Sarfraz to Australia. Now it is a real suspense that who will do the job in third test at Hobart.

Earlier, it was being said that young wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed will ‘participate’ in the final Test here as a replacement for Kamran Akmal.

The News quoted sources as saying that the tour selection committee will have a ‘debate’ on the issue before taking a final decision on it within the next couple of days.

Kamran, it seemed, was out of the final Test after he dropped four easy catches besides squandering a run-out opportunity in the second Test.

His pathetic show behind the stumps was seen as the biggest reason behind Pakistan’s 36-run defeat that came after the tourists had taken a 206-run lead against the Aussies.

Just a day later, the PCB issued a press release from its headquarters in Lahore saying that Sarfraz will be rushed to Australia where he will participate in the third Test starting at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart from January 14.

Sarfraz, 20, is scheduled to join the national team here on Sunday.

Now, it seems that the team management is having second thoughts.

Sources said Kamran has a lot of influence within the team and most of the players want him to play the third Test instead of Sarfraz.

Kamran himself has also shown his desire to feature in the Hobart Test, saying that he would do his best not to repeat the mistakes of Sydney in the future.

Why India lose match against Pakistan

September 28th, 2009

Pakistan blow past India by 54 runs in the 6th match of ICC champion trophy and qualifying in the semi final round.

Why India lose this match? What is the reason bating or bowling?

Indian bating is good Gambhir, Dravid and Raina playing very well. Indian team’s poor bowling display on as the reason for their defeat against Pakistan and say it’s a bowling pitch but if bowlers maintains there line or length its hard for Pakistan to create a big total

Idian batsman put up a good show but failed to make a big partnership. They got off a good start but didn’t capitalize on that.

The other reason is that Pakistan bowlers exploited the conditions better. The Pakistanis bowled to a much better line and length and that was one of the reasons for Indian lose the match.

Wasim Bari appointed new PCB chief

September 8th, 2009

KARACHI — Former national captain Wasim Bari has been appointed chief operating officer of Pakistan’s cricket board, the organisation announced Tuesday, replacing sacked former fast bowler Salim Altaf. The appointment of 61-year-old Bari, currently director of human resources, comes after Altaf was sacked earlier this month, apparently because of differences with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt.

“The governing board of the PCB… has appointed Bari as chief operating officer of the PCB with immediate effect,” said a PCB press release.

Bari said he would do his best to lift the image of Pakistani cricket, tainted by security fears and a number of scandals.

“Pakistan cricket has suffered badly, but we are trying our level best to lift it and we will do it with the best of efforts,” he told to media.

“This new post is a great challenge for me. I will do my best to work for the promotion of the game in Pakistan. I like working together and with consensus, that is my principle,” he added.

Bari played 81 Tests and 51 one-day internationals in 1960s and 70s, and also served as chairman of selectors as recently as 2007. He was appointed interim chief selector from June to August this year.

Altaf, who was the right hand man of Butt when the new board took over in October last year, accused the chairman of running the PCB as a one-man show.

Altaf’s sacking was the latest twist in Pakistan’s unending saga of controversies in the game.

Pakistani cricket has been embroiled in scandals ranging from doping controversies and disciplinary problems to public disputes between officials and match-fixing allegations.

Foreign teams have also been shunning tours to Pakistan over security fears in a nation battling a Taliban insurgency.

Two major events — the Champions Trophy and World Cup 2011 matches — were moved out of Pakistan because of safety jitters.

Farhat confirm shattered ties with ICL

September 4th, 2009

Pakistan opener Imran Farhat has confirmed that he has shattered binds with the Indian Cricket League, making himself on hand for official cricket. Farhat met Wasim Bari, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s chief operating officer, and submitted a no-objection certificate from the ICL.

The PCB, Bari said to media will take on the same process applied in the case of the other ICL players.

Farhat joined the rebel league in 2007, a year before the general migration of Pakistan players. All those affiliated to the ICL were banned by the PCB and kept out of domestic cricket. Some, including Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Yousuf, Naved-ul-Hasan and Imran Nazir, snapped ties with the ICL earlier this year and returned to the Pakistan fold up. The future of the ICL itself appears unwelcoming due to a cash crunch, with a majority of its players - both Indian and overseas - pulling out.

Farhat said he regretted joining the ICL and was desperate to play more cricket than the league was organising. “Joining the ICL was a mistake I realised later on,” he said. “I realised it when I found that playing for the ICL meant playing just one tournament in a year, which is not enough to satisfy the hunger for cricket.”

His ICL team-mate, Mohammad Sami, has also expressed regret at joining the ICL and is still awaiting payment due to him, which he claims is more than Rs 10 million.

“It was a bad decision because it ruined my international career,” Sami said. “But now I cannot leave the league until my dues are cleared.”

The fast bowler said he would meet former captain Moin Khan - the ICL’s representative in Pakistan - to get his dues cleared.

Pakistan yet to confirm NZ tour venue next week

September 4th, 2009

Pakistan is yet to settle a site for their ‘home’ one-day series against New Zealand, planned for November. Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, will convene officials in the UAE on Monday to see the sights of the possibilities of hosting the series in Dubai or another neutral venue.

“I will meet a [4-5] member UAE team in Dubai on September 7 to take a decision on this matter,” Butt told to media.

Pakistan had earlier decided to split the Tests and ODIs, with a plan to play the Tests in New Zealand, who would be the ‘away’ team. Pakistan are likely to finish their commitments with New Zealand before heading off to Australia for a Test and ODI series in December-January.

Butt had earlier discussed the issue with the UAE’s Sheikh Mubarak during his recent visit to Dubai but felt the asking rate - reportedly in excess of $3 million - was too high. Pakistan hosted Australia in Abu Dhabi and Dubai for five ODIs and a Twenty20 in April.

“I told him the rates for holding the ODI matches against Australia in Abu Dhabi in April this year were reasonable,” Butt said. “Naturally, we don’t want to incur a loss and I informed him to give us rates like that of Abu Dhabi.”

Visits to Pakistan have been pretend hold for an imprecise era following the attacks on the Sri Lankan players in Lahore this March. As a result, Pakistan has already lost their share of the 2011 World Cup matches.
