IPL Inquires BCCI To Take A Final Call On IMG Concern

September 3rd, 2009
IPL

IPL

IPL and BCCI foundations said that BCCI president Shashank Manohar wills appraisal the matter and at hand his statement and suggestions to the BCCI’s working commission on September 24.

The decision was taken to end the chasm between two powerful BCCI officials - Lalit Modi and N Srinivasan.

The BCCI’s decision to terminate the services of the IMG from IPL was seen as an attempt to clip Modi’s wings.

But with seven IPL franchises and even the former BCCI president Sharad Pawar throwing their weight behind Modi, the IPL Governing Council met here on Wednesday and took the decision to take the matter before the BCCI Working Committee.

Earlier, a ‘disturbed’ Pawar reportedly snubbed Srinivasan and expressed his disappointment in no uncertain terms in a letter addressed to Manohar.

”When I was the board president, we signed a 10-year agreement with IMG to conceptualise, formulate and implement a new league along with Lalit Modi and the same was approved at all appropriate levels,” he stated.

”IMG has been instrumental in day-to-day operations of the league and we should come to a suitable arrangement (with IMG). In IPL, there are many stakeholders and anything we do that may jeopardize their investments will show BCCI in a bad light. With the overwhelming success of the IPL, it is our duty to protect not only BCCI but also all its stakeholders,” Pawar said.

Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, is of the outlook that the IMG has been fleece the BCCI, and therefore, its services should be completed.

BCCI help soccer in India

August 14th, 2009

BCCI  agreed to donate 5 million (about R39m) over the next two years to improve the socer activities in India. The BBCI take positive step in helping the financially weak soccer body for money needed to prepare the national team for the 2011 Asian Cup soccer finals in Qatar. “The BCCI will give 250 million rupees (5m) to the All-India Football Federation for the development of football in the country in the next two years,” the cricket board said in a statement. The BCCI, the richest sports body in the country, which earned around 222m in fiscal year 2007/8, has already set aside 11m for the promotion of other sports in India.

This is a positive approach by rich BCCI who has started contributing in other games to bring India into a sports culture. This is a love from cricket lovers to soccer fans in India. I think other boards like Srilanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh should also help hockey and football associations to improve the sports standards in Asia.

Earlier it was decided to have a cricket series once in two years but India is not seems to be committed. India Pakistan series is bigger than Ashes. The fans really love to see this event but Indian board is not only depriving of Pakistan to play cricket rather the cricket lovers too to watch a wonderful event.

This kind of behaviour will kill cricket and ties of nations too. The politics should not be involve in cricket.

ICC is a puppet organization

June 29th, 2009

ICC is a puppet organization which has forgotten the ethics of cricket and sports. ICC is just folllowing the Indian plans due to money. India is the biggest source of revenue for ICC. There are other memebers of ICC but they dont have say in this organization. All the memebers have to follow the dictation and plans of ICC which are formulated by Indian cricket board. It is compulsory for all the teams to spare the players for IPL (Indian Premier League) but if any big event of cricket like world cup or champions trophy schedule contradict with Indian cricket schedule then ICC must change the dates of events for India to be available for cricket. The teams has been seen playing international cricket without their key players because players busy in playing IPL. IPL dates are fixed, there cannot be any change. All the international cricket teams should formulate their schedules in such a way that IPL is not disturbed and make sure the players representing from those countries are free from national duty. Is this cricket? Is this gentleman game any more? I was browsing Yahoo answers and find the following question

Is ICC a puppet of BCCI?

Answers - Not exactly. BCCI is powerful, and ICC have to sway according to BCCI’s interests. I will not use puppet, I’ll say ICC is spineless. Appears to be so. Otherwise, why should they ban ICL players ? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080929073715AAB7rED There are many incidents where ICC is totally biased. I would like to quote some with sources here. THE International Cricket Council, one might have expected, sent out a long-winded and self-righteous justification for their action in ejecting West Indian umpire Steve Bucknor from the Test series between Australia and India. Read More at http://allafrica.com/stories/200801110019.html ICC is Hypocrate Call it BCCI’s hypocrisy or ICC’s duplicity; it doesn’t matter, for many believe BCCI controls the ICC, no matter what reasons are given to them to prove the stated ‘fact’ wrong Read More at http://www.zeenews.com/blog/21/blog139.html There are many incident recently where ICC status is questionable. There is a preferential treatment towards some members while some members are being totally ignored. The game of gentlemen is in the hands of wrong people. If the affairs of ICC will continue like this then the cricket in this planet will become the most disputed word. I am a cricket lover, intention of writing this article is purely base on sending message to ICC about the feelings of cricket lovers around the world. The former cricket players should come up to save the world of cricket.

The Rebel ICL,ICC and Board of Control For Cricket In India Tried To Thrash Out Deal

February 24th, 2009

Morgan was there in Johannesburg as officials from the rebel ICL, the ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India tried to thrash out a deal.

ICL chiefs are keen to acquire ‘unofficial cricket’ status - a new idea introduced by the ICC for tournaments which are not run by a country’s home board but are approved.

However, after a three-hour meeting in South Africa a breakthrough could not be found between all parties, and a decision will now be left to the ICC in April.

“I am grateful to all parties for coming together with the best of intentions and the discussions took place in a friendly and cordial manner but, unfortunately, we were not able to come to a successful conclusion in our discussions,” said Morgan.

“The ICL’s application for approval as unofficial cricket will now go before the ICC board at its April meeting in Dubai.

“Given the discussions took place without prejudice, no further comment will be made at this time.”

The ICL, bankrolled by television giants Zee, has been in a bitter dispute with the BCCI, who stages the approved Indian Premier League.

Several countries have banned their players from playing international cricket if they turned out for the ICL - as they try to avoid any big-name players making an appearance.

Previous talks in October also broke down and Zee has previously threatened to get the courts involved to resolve the dispute.

India may miss Pakistan tour

December 1st, 2008
Pak/India
Pak/India

India’s tour of Pakistan next year is in doubt following reports that the government could block the team from travelling.

Following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, several Indian television stations have claimed that the tour will be scrapped.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has so far refused to comment on the stories, saying a request for security clearance was pending.

India are scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 match during the five-week trip from January 13 to February 19.

Doubt

The tour was first put in doubt earlier this month when the Indian government refused to allow the India junior hockey team to play in Pakistan.

Australia cancelled a tour of Pakistan in March, while the ICC postponed their Champions Trophy tournament in September because of security concerns.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt had said on Friday that the tour would depend on the respective governments.

“The security situation is out of our control and after what has happened in Mumbai, the decision on the Indian team’s tour of Pakistan is now in two governments’ hands,” Butt said.

“Relocating the home series to neutral venues was a huge financial loss in the past so it’s detestable but in an effort to give our players some cricket we will have to do that, but as a last resort.”

Cricket officials in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had offered to host the series, but that is believed to be unlikely to happen.

Pakistan coach favours neutral venue

November 18th, 2008
Pakistan
Pakistan

Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam wants to play Test matches against India at a neutral venue in case the Indian government does not clear its cricket team’s tour of Pakistan in January due to security concerns.

“First of all, I think India should come to Pakistan,” Alam told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

“(But) if for any reason the tour does not go ahead as planned, I think playing at neutral venue is the best option.”

Alam took over as coach from Australia’s Geoff Lawson last month and succeeded in his first assignment as Pakistan beat the West Indies 3-0 in the one-day series in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“I saw the new stadium in Dubai which has a capacity of around 25,000 spectators and with Abu Dhabi also having good facilities I think both these venues could be used for Pakistan-India test series,” Alam said.

India are scheduled to tour Pakistan from January 4 to February 19 for three Test matches and five one-day internationals.

However, the tour is in doubt, especially after the Indian government did not clear its junior field hockey team to play five test matches in Pakistan on security grounds last week.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt has said that the board could look for alternatives – including switching the series with India – in case the Indian cricket tour to Pakistan does not go ahead.

“Playing in India will be a disadvantage to us and I think the best option is to look for neutral venues,” Alam said.

Due to security fears of foreign teams, Pakistan has not played a Test match this year but competed in 21 one-day internationals.

“I don’t think switching from one-day mode to longer version of the game will be difficult for our players because after all they are all professional cricketers,” Alam said.

The coach is planning to organise four-day or five-day games between Pakistan and the Rest of the Pakistan XI before the series against India.

“By doing so, the players could easily switch into the atmosphere of five-day game and it could give them good practice before the test matches against India,” Alam said.

Alam was optimistic that the Indian cricket team would come to Pakistan, but wanted the governments in both countries to coordinate how the tour could go ahead.

“Frankly speaking, it’s not in the hands of either the Pakistan Cricket Board or the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India),” Alam said. “The thing is that both governments should look into this and see how the tour could go ahead.”
