Cricket on Slow Wicket

December 8th, 2009

Wicket, which offers no advantage to bowlers specially pace bowler, normally known as slow pitch or wicket. Physically that wicket found in this state in which fast bowlers cannot claim wickets easily. Normally in this sort of wickets medium pacers can achieve their goals,  bowlers should delivered the ball on the off-side and set the field towards the said side, this is the most safest tactic to seize the batsmen for more runs, in this era batsmen definitely will play in mentally pressure and there will be chance of mistake occurs, that will be the successful period of the bowlers, If bowlers doesn’t emphasize this practice otherwise, slow pitch converts into  paradise for the batsmen and they can scores huge runs without any hurdles. Now a days cricket becomes passionating game, viewres like to watch aggressive and energetic smashes by the batsmen, in this sense players enjoy betting, on slow wicket or slow pith. We can see that the records of most runs in test cricket increases day by day, we have never seen before the single, double, triple centuries, in this quantity which have became very common today, just because of slow pitches.

PCB Inquiry Against Javed Miandad

August 19th, 2008

PCB, Inquiry, Javed Miandad, Nasim Ashraf, Pakistan, CricketJaved Miandad called for an in depth inquiry into the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board before Nasim Ashraf is allowed to leave the country following his resignation as its chairman and Miandad said Ashraf was an American passport holder and could possibly leave the country soon but he should not be allowed to go abroad without a full and proper inquiry into the affairs of the Board during his tenure since late 2006.

Miandad a vocal critic of PCB, feels Ashraf`s faulty policies had led to a downslide in Pakistan cricket and there was a need for him and his team to be held accountable and this culture of people holding foreign passports leaving the country as soon as they are forced to leave their powerful positions must stop. They must be held accountable for their deeds. Shaukat Aziz the former Prime Minister had gone abroad and no one could do anything against him said Miandad who played 124 Tests & he also asked the ruling government to place Ashraf`s name on the exit control list ECL. I fear Ashraf will also leave for the states soon so his name should be put on the ECL until the probe into cricket affairs is completed.

Shoaib Akhtars Faces many Controversy

August 18th, 2008

Shoaib Akhtars, Fast bowler, Pakistan, cricket, PCB, Controversy Controversial fast bowler Shoaib Akhtars lawyer on Sunday refused to comment on the fresh legal notice sent by Pakistan Cricket Board to his client to pay a seven million rupees fine or forget playing in the Champions Trophy and Akhtar`s lawyer Abid Hasan Minto said since his office has not as yet received a full copy of the legal notice he would not comment on the matter. We will study the notice and then take appropriate action Minto said.

The fast bowler was served a legal notice yesterday by the legal counsel of the board who said the fine had to be paid as per court orders or Akhtar would be dropped from the Pakistan squad for the Champions Trophy. Akhtar was handed a ban of five years by the board in March which was reduced to 18 months by an appellate tribunal in June which however fined him seven million rupees and he then filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court asking for the ban and fine to be overturned.

The court suspended the ban but has not passed any order on the fine. His petition will be heard from next month. Sources close to Akhtar said the fast bowler was extremely disheartened after getting the fresh notice as he has started serious training for the Champions Trophy. He feels this is another attempt by some people in the board to cause him mental anguish and try to disturb his preparations for the tournament.

Former Captain Inzamam-ul-Haq Blamed the Cricket Board

August 14th, 2008

Pakistan, Cricket, Captain, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Cricket Board Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq blamed the cricket board`s neglect of departmental cricket responsible for the slide in Pakistan cricket and failure to produce top class players. By pushing back departments and restructuring first class cricket the board has committed a grave mistake. We were on top of the world in 1992 and 1999 because we followed the departmental cricket system the former Test batsman said and we need to follow the same system we used in the past and support departmental cricket.

Since that system has been abolished quality players have stopped coming up he said. Inzamam said he was not against having region based domestic cricket but the positive of having departments and banks play domestic competitions was that players got employment and had to compete for places against strong opposition. In regional cricket there is disparity between the teams in terms of players strength and that is harming our domestic cricket. We have to revert back to promoting departmental cricket or we will not be able to produce players of the caliber of a Javed Miandad or Wasim Akram Inzamam said & Former captain Imran Khan has been one of the biggest supporters of having region based domestic cricket and has been vocal in his opposition to allowing departments and banks take part in 1st lass cricket but Inzamam noted that it was because of departments that standard of domestic cricket was high and players got a chance to shine at the top level. We should promote regional cricket but at the same time need to enhance status of departmental cricket. There should be competition between the 2 he said. Inzamam himself was first picked for Pakistan after a record breaking year for United bank which had spotted him at the junior level. Last season, the cricket board introduced monthly retainers and match fees for players appearing for regional associations in domestic tournaments and from this season has allowed teams to even have one or 2 overseas guest players to enhance the quality of domestic competitions. Inzamam said unless the domestic structure was improved Pakistan would struggle to win against big teams. What is of concern is that in last two years we have not played a series to our potential. We do win one match here and there but not a full-fledged series and this is a very serious issue. He also called for the induction of senior professional cricketers into the board. The board is involving former players at the coaching level and in some administrative positions but by and large there is a need to have senior player involved in the running of the game in the country the former captain who had played 120 Tests and 378 one-dayers said.

The New Referral system in Cricket

July 28th, 2008

Brett Lee, Australia, Referral system, Cricket, Umpire

Australian pace spearhead Brett Lee on Monday gave a thumbs down to the newly-introduced umpire referral system saying it should not be used for deciding leg-before dismissals and the system, which allows each team three unsuccessful referrals against on-field umpire`s decisions is on trial in the ongoing Test series between India and Sri Lanka. The system has evoked mixed reaction from players with some saying that it has helped the game become error-free while others criticising it for eroding the on field umpire`s authority and slowing down matches. Lee felt it takes away the element of human error which makes cricket an intriguing sport. It`s good for stumping and run outs but I believe the human element should always be there. For leg before decisions I like the on-field umpire to take the call and I think most times they do get it right,” Lee said. The Australian pace spearhead has been on a high for the past several months, earning back-to-back man of the series awards in the Test series against Sri Lanka and West Indies and completing 300 wickets in the longer version of the game his red hot form earned him rich praise from West Indies great Viv Richards, who put him in the same bracket as Caribbean legends like Joel Garner and Michael Holding. Lee said he was humbled by Richards praise. It was a great feeling… to be praised by somebody like him is certainly special. Those were lovely comments that Viv made and I felt humbled he said. Away from cricket Lee shot for his maiden Bollywood movie `Victory` and said it was not all that tough as he just had to play himself in the movie that also stars newcomer Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao. Shooting for Victory was a very good experience. We had fun on the sets. Harman was a nice co-star and it was a great experience working with him he said and the 31 year old pacer also has plans to release a music album soon.

Pakistan chances of hosting the Champions Trophy

July 21st, 2008

 Cricket, Pakistan, Host, Champions Trophy

As uncertainty looms large on Pakistan`s chances of hosting the Champions Trophy in September Board chairman Nasim Ashraf today expressed confidence that the mega event will not be relocated from the country. We are going to have an ICC meeting on Thursday on teleconference to take a final decision and but we are confident that the ICC will take the right decision about the tournament as it is very important for Pakistan cricket Ashraf said. We are in touch with all the countries and we are trying to assure them that all possible security precautions are being put into place for the Champions Trophy and it is safe to play in Pakistan he added. Meanwhile Pakistan`s former Test cricketers backed PCB and said the tournament should be held in Pakistan and former Test opener and head coach at the National Cricket Academy, Mudassar Nazar said the concerns of playing in Pakistan are unfounded. I think the concerns of playing in Pakistan are unfounded. While individuals may have reservations and that is understandable but overall the situation is such the tournament can be held in Pakistan he said. He said instead of thinking about relocating the tournament from Pakistan if a stalemate continues in the ICC the tournament should be postponed till conditions improve. Former Test batsman Ejaz Ahmed expressed apprehension that if the tournament was relocated it would affect the future of Pakistan cricket. More importantly if the tournament is relocated it would badly affect the future of Pakistan cricket with every team using this precedent to not play in Pakistan.

Delighting Movement of ACC Awards Ceremony

July 6th, 2008

Cricket, Khalid Butt, ACC, Awards Ceremony

The Asian Cricket Council ACC awards ceremony here turned out to be a glittering affair except for a part where a local stand up comedian decided to use the platform to ridicule four of Pakistan`s former Test captains and Khalid Butt who has a popular comedy show on a local channel and his fellow partner on Saturday night ridiculed former Pakistani greats Inzamam-ul-Haq, Wasim Akram Javed Miandad and Rameez Raja during a comedy segment organised to entertain the dignitaries present in the ACC awards ceremony However the ridiculing of former players didn`t go well with the people and they felt it was in bad taste and could have been avoided considering it was an awards ceremony to honour the cricketing greats of Asia in the presence of top cricket officials of the world and players of participating teams in the Asia Cup. I didn`t like the part about the fun being made off the former players. It should not have happened a senior official of the ACC said and Cricketer turned commentator Rameez- however took the fun made of him in true sporting spirit asked by his fellow presenter Suchitra Pillay what he felt about the segment Rameez said It was good but in parts. The comedy show included a documentary on Rameez where fun was being made of his looks and voice. The skit also insinuated Rameez to be an ordinary player who in his career had hit 6 only due to the bowlers fault and the awards ceremony was organised by a private event management company Catwalk Productions.

Anil Kumble such a Helping Person -Ojha

June 30th, 2008

Pragyan Ojha, Anil Kumble, Cricket, Indian

The newest addition to Indias spin bowling armoury left armer Pragyan Ojha credits Test captain Anil Kumble for helping him learn the tricks of the trade and fine tune his game. Obviously it helps a lot if you are playing with experienced bowlers like Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. I have not had a chance to speak to Bhajji but I have been in touch with Anil bhai and he has been very helpful to me Ojha told reporters after a net session on Monday. Ojha who made his ODI debut against Bangladesh on Saturday said he had got tips from Kumble who had given him a lot of guidance. His advice has helped me a lot and it is good to learn from experienced players like him he said. Ojha who had a decent show in the Indian Premier League didn`t agree that the Twenty20 competition was the main reason behind his selection in the Indian team for the Asia Cup. No it has all come together. It is very important to also play and perform in Ranji trophy Deodhar trophy and the Challenger trophy. I think playing in all these events including the IPL has brought me forward he said. The young spinner who impressed on his debut against Bangladesh said he was prepared to the challenges of bowling to sub-continental batsmen who play spin well. My only ambition is to play for my country and do well. There is pressure no doubt but I can take it. Playing in the Asia Cup against batsmen who are used to playing spinners is a challenge but I have accepted it he said. My 1st match was a good one and I just want to continue the same way whenever I get a chance to play he added. Ojha said he was sticking to the basics and not working on special deliveries or tactics for Twenty20 and one day cricket. I am just trying to stick to the basics like working on my flight and keeping a good length consistently. Meanwhile only three Indian players opted to use the optional practice session with the Pathan brothers and Ojha coming to the nets. Irfan who missed the first three games of the Asia Cup because of a side strain bowled around 6 to seven overs in the nets before he picked up the bat under the guidance of the team physiotherapist.
