Pakistan leg spinner Danish Kaneria today asserted that he was in prime form with no fitness concerns and if PCB drafts him directly in the national team he was always available to play for the country and he said he was even ready to sacrifice his county commitments if PCB gives him a chance to play Tests 1 dayers and Twenty20 matches.
Kaneria who is enjoying a successful stint with Essex in the English county championship, had turned down an invitation from the national selectors to play in three trial matches in Lahore being held to finalise teams for a home series against New Zealand and the Champions Trophy. I have taken 22 wickets in Twenty20 cricket for them and am bowling well and I am in super fit condition. The board contacted me and I told them that since these are trial matches and I can not leave my county commitments. The trial matches are on 7 and 10 and I have an important match during the same dates and if I was invited directly for the team I would get clearance from my county to travel to Pakistan he said from England asked about his statement that he would think about playing for England if Pakistani selectors continued to ignore him for one-day and Twenty20 games Kaneria said it was all a misunderstanding my statement was misquoted. What I said was that if I was not picked for Pakistan for say three years then I would have no option but to settle down in England and carry on my cricket career there as I am a professional player he clarified and no one should ever doubt my commitment and pride for playing for Pakistan. I made that clear later on.

Tired of being overlooked by the selectors Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is toying with the idea of switching side and playing for England. The 27 year old leg spinner said he has enough cricket in him and he would not hesitate to switch sides if Pakistan continues to ignore him. I may consider playing for England at one stage if Pakistan are not picking me Kaneria told reporters. I am 27 and a proper leg-spinner gets his real class when he is 32 Shane Warne got to his 30s and was bowling out every team so I have plenty of years to go said the spinner who plays for Essex in county cricket. Unsure of what future has in store for him Kaneria said I don`t know what will happen and will see how Pakistan cope with me. If England wanted me to play and do something for them I would think it over. Kaneria did not find a place in Pakistans list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy but the leg-spinner still yearns for a recall in the ODI squad. I didn`t hear anything from Pakistan. I am doing well and taking wickets and would like to play 1 day cricket for Pakistan again he said. I have not given up and want to get my place back in the team. I play well in each form of the game but when Pakistan don`t pick me it is up to the media to ask the selectors why said Kaneria. An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson told the newspaper that Kaneria would be eligible if he gains a British citizenship and refrains from playing in or for Pakistan.

Profile:
A tall, wiry legspinner, and only the second Hindu to play Test cricket for Pakistan (the first, his cousin Anil Dalpat, was briefly their wicketkeeper), Danish Kaneria mastered some vital skills at an early age. His stock ball drifts into the batsman and he has a googly as cloaked as any in recent history.. His whirling approach is reminiscent of Abdul Qadir, and he has now picked up the baton from Mushtaq Ahmed as Pakistan’s premier legspinner. Kaneria was hyped as a secret weapon when England toured Pakistan in 2000-01, and though his impact in the Test series was minimal, he has since made his mark. Initially he did so against the lesser lights of Bangladesh, but also in a home Test against South Africa, when his five-for won Pakistan the match. Since then, he has confirmed himself as a bona fide matchwinner, leading Pakistan to wins against Sri Lanka in Karachi in 2004 and against the West Indies in Jamaica in 2005. In between, two tours - to Australia and the graveyard of legspin, India - became arduous but satisfying stepping stones to the big league. In each series he outscalped the leading legspinners of our age, first Shane Warne, then Anil Kumble and although Pakistan lost the first series comprehensively, Kaneria’s 19 wickets were crucial in securing a morale-boosting 1-1 draw in India. He ended 2005 with two further, last-day matchwinning turns against England at home.
