Pakistan could be used England as a ‘home’ Tests

May 15th, 2009

England give the proposal to the Pakistan he can use his grounds for his home series. Pakistan cricket now that the Asian nation has been declared a no-go zone on security grounds.

The chied executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) David Collier addressed on Friday  regarding Pakistan playing a four-Test series in England next year followed by a two-Test series on English soil against Australia.

The decision by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last month has re-allocated the matches Pakistan was due to stage in the 2011 World Cup, citing safety fears - a move that is now the subject of a legal challenge by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Collier added: “We are one of the few countries that has a number of international grounds and they (the venues) are desperate for content.”

Kaneria Said I am Proper Leg Spinner

July 18th, 2008

 Danish kaneria, selectors, England

Tired of being overlooked by the selectors Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is toying with the idea of switching side and playing for England. The 27 year old leg spinner said he has enough cricket in him and he would not hesitate to switch sides if Pakistan continues to ignore him. I may consider playing for England at one stage if Pakistan are not picking me Kaneria told reporters. I am 27 and a proper leg-spinner gets his real class when he is 32 Shane Warne got to his 30s and was bowling out every team so I have plenty of years to go said the spinner who plays for Essex in county cricket. Unsure of what future has in store for him Kaneria said I don`t know what will happen and will see how Pakistan cope with me. If England wanted me to play and do something for them I would think it over. Kaneria did not find a place in Pakistans list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy but the leg-spinner still yearns for a recall in the ODI squad. I didn`t hear anything from Pakistan. I am doing well and taking wickets and would like to play 1 day cricket for Pakistan again he said. I have not given up and want to get my place back in the team. I play well in each form of the game but when Pakistan don`t pick me it is up to the media to ask the selectors why said Kaneria. An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson told the newspaper that Kaneria would be eligible if he gains a British citizenship and refrains from playing in or for Pakistan.

South African Test Series Against England

July 2nd, 2008

Morne Morkel, South African, Test Series, England

Ahead of the 1st Test against England at Lord’s starting on July 10 the South African team has two first class warm up games to get back in rhythm. This is welcome news for the visitors who could use the match practice to get into full flow as they have not played an international match for the last two months. Their 1st warm-up game of the tour is currently being played against Somerset. After setting an imposing total of 515 for 3 declared in the first innings, in which all the Proteas batsmen except opener Neil McKenzie found form Somerset went in to bat and was bundled out for 249. Morne Morkel was the pick of the South African bowlers. Morkel is no novice to English conditions having played county cricket for Kent and Yorkshire before. But this was his first stint for the country in England and he picked up 3 wickets for 64 runs in his 13 overs. Bowling well within himself, Morkel surprised the Somerset batsmen with some unusual bounce on what was considered a flat and lifeless pitch. On the first day of the match Andy Caddick captain of the Somerset team commented that the wicket was too flat. But the South African bowlers who held back their full potential and were solely concentrating on hitting the right line and length seemed to make the best of a lifeless pitch. Apart from Morkel’s 3 wicket haul Makhaya Ntini and Paul Harris picked up two wickets a-piece while Andre Nel picked up the sole wicket of Somerset opener Neil Edwards. Morkel seemed happy with his 3 wickets haul and admitted to playing around with his lengths a little more in this match, as it was his first international outing since his injury earlier this year and after two days of play South Africa looks in a commanding position with a 322-run lead over Somerset and the team is currently batting at 56 for 1. The touring Proteas will play another first class warm-up game against Middlesex on Friday before taking on the English at Lords on July 10 for the first Test. Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla.

England have Agreed to Play Twenty20

June 11th, 2008

 England Twenty20

The first match will be on 1 November against Stanfords Super Stars at Sir Allens cricket ground in Antigua. Winning players will receive 500,000 each with another 1m split between the rest of the squad and coaches and the remaining 3.5m will be divided between the England and West Indies Cricket Boards. It is believed to be the richest team prize for a single sporting match. The deal will be for five years with a match being held annually in November and England coach Peter Moores said players were happy with the deal and denied there had been a split in the camp. He added their mental strength would be tested in a different way because of the amount of money involved although he did not expect there to be issues if established players were left out of the side in place of up and coming stars. It will be a different sort of pressure for all the players. It is such an exciting time to be involved in the game Moores said. In modern sport you realise that players get paid differently and you get paid for what you earn the right to. It is quite a ruthless business. Sir Allen 58 a Texas born billionaire who first made his fortune in real estate in the 1980s arrived at Lords for the announcement by private helicopter landing on the nursery ground and the glitzy launch was attended by a number of past cricket stars including Sir Ian Botham Sir Viv Richards Sir Garfield Sobers Sir Everton Weekes Curtly Ambrose and Nasser Hussain. And during the event $20m 10m in cash was brought on to the stage to highlight the serious amount of money involved. The agreement is part of Sir Allens ongoing initiative to try and reverse the decline of West Indies cricket. He has been bankrolling a local Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean since 2006 with $2m prize money on offer and the Stanford Super Stars will be made up of these players. It is one night winner takes all $20m said Sir Allen who also believes that Twenty20 cricket could replace football as the biggest game in world sport in less than 10 years. Twenty20 is what is going to grab the TV revenue and it’s the future of sport make no mistake about that. This series will expose the sport to a whole different market that has never seen cricket nor would they be interested to see the game via a Test match series and you have to remember T20 was born right here in England I didn’t invent it the English invented it. We are working with the England and Wales Cricket Board to take it to another level. They are in my opinion the best drivers going into the future for all of us to benefit from. We had to create something that had never been done before and take cricket to the previous level in the Caribbean we have not been running our sport at a professional level. Sir Allen who also supports golf tournaments in the USA including last weeks Stanford St Jude championship polo and sailing first offered a $5m 2.5m 1 off winner takes all match to South Africa but it came to nothing because of scheduling problems and he then tried to entice India and doubled the prize money but they also refused. ECB chief executive David Collier confirmed the matches would be sanctioned by the International Cricket Council but would not be given official status. Collier said it is wonderful to have such a warm endorsement from Sir Allen and it is testament to what we have been trying to do in the game.

Spin was The Primary Weapon

June 4th, 2008

 Stuart Broad England

England pace bowler Stuart Broad believes the Nottingham swing factor can give his side a 2-0 series win in the third and final Test against New Zealand starting at Trent Bridge on Thursday. Spin was the primary weapon at the second Test at Old Trafford which England won by six wickets thanks to Monty Panesar after trailing New Zealand by 179 runs on the first innings. This time however Broad expects the fast bowlers to have more success. Nottingham is the home ground of Broad and Englands top ranked bowler Ryan Sidebottom. Its always a bonus when the ball swings Broad told reporters. It didn`t swing once at Old Trafford, not even for Siddey  Sidebottom and he will swing it on anything. Trent Bridge will suit us more. While England will select from the same 12-man squad New Zealand have more selection headaches with number three James Marshall out of form after just 52 runs in his four innings so far in the series. Batsman Daniel Flynn is another whose place is in jeopardy having failed to prove in the Northamptonshire practice match that he has regained his confidence after being hit in the mouth by a James Anderson bouncer at Old Trafford. I would have liked to see Daniel spend more time at the crease getting his confidence coach John Bracewell told reporters. There is nothing like being in the middle and the hustle and bustle of it to get yourself back on the bike and bracewell suggested Peter Fulton might be recalled after scoring a half century at Northampton while teenage swing bowler Tim Southee is expected to return for Iain O`Brien after recovering from a stomach upset that kept him out of the Manchester Test. Meanwhile Englands Paul Collingwood revealed that he has spent time with England batting coach Andy Flower to help him overcome his wretched form. He has not scored a Test century in a year. It was decided the best thing for me was to work on my game Collingwood told reporters on Tuesday. Andy came up to Durham for a couple of days and we had two very good sessions and worked a bit technically but spoke about the game more than anything else. Sometimes that works better than anything. Nottingham has not been Englands most successful venue recently after losing a one day series decider to West Indies last year and Tests against Sri Lanka in 2006 and India in 2007.
