 Not willing to blame the batsmen for the sudden Indian batting collapse Indian Vice Captain Virendra Sehwag today said all the batsmen fell to good balls though the wicket was playing well. Sachin Tendulkar- Rahul Dravid- Sourav Ganguly all fell to good balls so you cannot do anything about it and they Sri Lanka have quality bowlers.

 Sehwag said after the 1^st days play in which India lost its four batsmen within the space of 10 runs but the opener who was unbeaten at 128 at close said I think 350 to 400 runs should be a good total on this wicket. On his secret of clobbering Ajantha Mendis Sehwag said he picked the mystery bowler rather early. On whether Dravid was out after it looked having hit the helmet Sehwag said he could not pick it though he too thought so and I don`t know because I was on the non strikers end and could not pick it up. I was in doubt whether the ball had hit or hot. But I felt it had hit the helmet. I feel if they Sri Lankans had known about it then it was not the right spirit of Sri Lankans. If the Sri lankan had knew it then I think they should have played with the right spirit and said that the ball had hit of helmet. We were in a good position. The 1^st wicket partnership was around 167 runs and then we lost four wickets. These things happen in a Test match. It happens so many times but you cannot do anything Sehwag said. On whether Gambhir was out after the review took a long time in taking a decision Sehwag said earlier he thought it could have missed the stumps but they replays showed otherwise. I thought it was a googly and then it could have been on the off stump also because sometimes it becomes difficult for the umpires to pick. But then it struck on the middle stump. We just took a chance to avail of the review system he said. Sehwag said the loss of four hours of play did not have any bearing on him. There was no impact on my batting after delay of four hours and but every batsmen plays with a different mindset. Maybe some other batsmen could have been affected by it. But I was just playing my shots.

Indian top cricketing stars Sachin Tendulkar- Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly will not be attending the first Castrol Asian Cricket Awards to be held here tomorrow as the trio is busy with their personal engagements and sources among the organisers confirmed that all three former Indian captains had sent their regrets over not being able to attend the ceremony although Ganguly`s wife is expected to come to receive an award on his behalf. Sources said that Ganguly- Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik and pacer Umar Gul are among the players in contention for the main awards. Tendulkar is abroad on vacations while Dravid is attending a training camp of the Indian team in Bangalore while Ganguly is in London 1 source said. The Castrol Asian Awards are being highlighted as the equivalent of the International Cricket Council Annual Awards and being staged in concurrence with the Asia Cup in Karachi. The cream of Pakistan cricket however will be present at the award function to be attended by the top board officials.

Indian selectors picked rookie spinner Pragyan Ojha and big-hitting all rounder Yusuf Pathan for upcoming ODI engagements in the sub continent. Left arm spinner Ojha was picked for a tri series in Bangladesh next week as well as the Asia Cup to follow in Pakistan after Murali Kartik ruled himself out owing to an injury. While Ojha was picked for the first time in an India squad big hitting all rounder Yusuf Pathan was selected in an ODI squad for the first time after having played in the Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa last year. The Bangladesh tri series also featuring Pakistan is to be held from July 8 to 14 while the Asia Cup is scheduled to run from June 24 to July 6. Though Ojha was not among the highest wicket takers in the Indian Premier League with just 11 in 13 matches he showed versatility in bowling at various stages of the matches including in the final overs. Ojha has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket having bagged 29 wickets in the Ranji Trophy season last year and also did well for the India A side. Pathan the elder brother of Irfan Pathan, impressed with his ability to get quick runs in the IPL and has been a consistent performer for Jaipur which has been the pick of the teams and the first one to ensure a semi final berth. Yusuf scored 334 runs in the league stage of the IPL smashing three half-centuries including the fastest fifty off 21 balls against Hyderabad Deccan Chargers. Sachin Tendulkar was ruled out of the two tournaments because of a groin injury while other senior players like Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid were once again not picked in the team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In the pace department, Zaheer Khan was not considered because of an ankle injury. Irfan Pathan- Ishant Sharma- RP Singh- S Sreesanth and Praveen Kumar are the seam bowlers in the side. Harbhajan Singh was not considered because of a ban for slapping S. Sreesanth after a match in the IPL.

Mark Boucher’s blistering unbeaten half-century proved in vain as the Bangalore Royal Challengers slipped to a five-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League on Thursday. The South African cracked 50 from 40 balls as Bangalore fell just short of their 130-run victory target in a match reduced to 16 overs because of rain. Economical bowling from Sourav Ganguly in particular, who finished with figures of one for seven from three overs, limited Bangalore to 124 for four - and left them rooted to the foot of the IPL table and having posted a far from intimidating total, the dismissals of opening pair Jagadeesh Arunkumar (22) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (seven) gave Kolkata early hope and that turned to genuine belief when Rahul Dravid was bowled by his India team-mate Ganguly for just five to leave the Challengers languishing on 51 for three in the 10th over. Boucher and Cameron White put on 45 in an impressive fourth-wicket partnership, but when the latter was run out for 30 to leave the visitors 34 runs from victory with less than two overs remaining the writing was on the wall for Bangalore. And Prasanta Saha and Murali Kartik made a rapid 17 apiece at the death as Kolkata’s total just proved sufficient.

Profile:    Saurav Ganguly, the Prince of Calcutta has a fan following of millions and that is justified considering the number of winning knocks he has played for India. His batting is the perfect blend of elegance and power. He has all the traditional style that goes with left handed batsmanship. He is also a superb/ perfect timer of the ball. The manner in which he steps out and pounces on the ball, like a tiger on a hapless prey, is something to be enjoyed on the spot. Graham Smith side batted first and posted 265 in their first innings while the host India scored 288 for 9 in their first innings, a slim lead does not post any threat sofar to visitors.
