I will continue not to play Twenty20 internationals:Tendulkar

February 13th, 2009

Tendulkar, the all-time leading run scorer in both Tests and ODIs, has only appeared once in the shortest format of the international game, against South Africa in 2006.

India’s visit to New Zealand starts with two Twenty20 fixtures on February 25 and 27, followed by five ODIs and three Tests.

“I will continue not to play Twenty20 internationals,” Tendulkar said.

“When I had decided not to play the Twenty20 World Cup after the England tour in 2007, my body was a bit tired and I needed rest.

“It was a conscious decision and I thought it wasn’t appropriate to go and not give my best. After that the team did well.

“The team is now settled and I don’t want to disturb it.”

Tendulkar thinks the toughest challenge in New Zealand will be to adjust to the conditions.

“It’s going to be a challenge playing New Zealand in New Zealand, especially for the ones who have not played there before,” he added.

“It’s a fairly new team and the conditions there will be an entirely new experience.

“It’s going to be a learning experience for them.”

Tendulkar one of most well-behaved cricketers: Ranatunga

November 13th, 2008

COLOMBO: Adam Gilchrist might have called Sachin Tendulkar a “bad sport” but for ex- Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga the Indian batting

expert is one of the best strong behaved cricketers he had played with.

“He (Tendulkar) was one of the nicest guys I played cricket with. The thing I well-liked of him was the commitment for the game. I am very pleased that he has left behind (the issue),” Ranatunga said.

“I have not seen anyone who is so committed to cricket. Actually I learnt a lot from him. I was not committed sufficient for my batting. The result shows. I think he (Tendulkar) is a role model for any young cricketer,” Ranatunga said.

Ranatunga, now the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), said Tendulkar deserved to become Test cricket’s highest run-getter surpassing West Indian great Brian Lara.

“I think he (Tendulkar) deserves to do that because of the commitment. He is one of the greatest cricketers I have played cricket with.”

Ranatunga feels that Tendulkar can easily play a couple of years of cricket and he should be given the luxury to decide when to hang his boots.

“I still feel he can easily play a couple of years. I think the important thing is he has to take care of his injuries. When you are getting older you are getting into all these issues.

“But he is still fit enough to play cricket. Even Sourav Ganguly, is getting runs. I think there will be a big vacuum when the ‘fab four’ goes,” Ranatunga said.

“Only Sachin should decide (on his retirement). If he feels that he is not enjoying the game he should announce his retirement,” he added.

Tribute to Sachin Tendulkar

October 19th, 2008

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has become the world record Test runs scorer, surpassing Brian Lara’s previous best mark of 11,953.
Tendulkar, 35, needed 15 runs to overtake West Indies legend Lara in the standings on the first day of the second Test against Australia in Mohali. And despite being forced to go to tea on 13 not out, the ‘Little Master’ came out after the interval to hit Australian debutant Peter Siddle’s first ball of the session for three runs to spark wild celebrations in the ground.
The crowd gave Tendulkar a standing ovation to celebrate his achievement, while a pre-prepared fireworks display was also set off outside. The entire Australian team also stood to applaud the batsman, who received warm handshakes from each member of the opposition lineup.
Tendulkar already held the record for Test centuries with 39 in 152 Test matches for India and he is regarded as a living legend in many parts of his homeland - particularly in his native city, Mumbai (formerly Bombay). The batsman’s achievement - and brilliance on the big occasion - was almost underlined with a 40th Test century, but it was not to be as he was dismissed on 88 after a catch at slip by Matthew Hayden off the bowling of Sidde.
The innings takes Tendulkar’s career total to 12,041 – making him the first batsman ever to surpass 12,000 Test runs.

Test series having slipped out of Indias fingers

August 13th, 2008

Test series, Sri Lanka, Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, IndianTest series already having slipped out of Indias fingers ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday feels losing Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the one dayers against Sri Lanka could be crucial for the team. Losing Sachin Tendulkar at this point of time can be crucial. It is very difficult to fill the space when it comes to Sachin.

He not only contributes with the bat and the ball his impact in the dressing room is great Dhoni told reporters on his arrival. Players look up to him and he always come up with brilliant suggestion and advices on the field as well. Talent wise and advice point of view it is very difficult to fill in his space he said. Tendulkar who jarred his left elbow while fielding in the third and final Test has been ruled out of the ODI series after he was prescribed three-week rest. Dhoni, however challenged his younger team members grab the opportunity to make a mark at this level.  At the same time cricket goes on. It is upto the guys who have been given a chance over here to perform and to prove that they are good enough for international cricket at times we have seen that when such a thing arises in the international scenario the youngsters come up they accept the responsibility and they take it as a challenge. Hopefully, it will be great to see someone who has just made his mark in the international level to really perform at the top he said. It is one of the toughest places to play cricket. It is not easy. You don’t really see loads of runs in the one-dayers because the wickets are quite slow. You have to work for your runs. It will be interesting.

Sehwag is very unhappy with The Batting Performance

July 31st, 2008

Virendra Sehwag, Sri Lanka, Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Batting Not willing to blame the batsmen for the sudden Indian batting collapse Indian Vice Captain Virendra Sehwag today said all the batsmen fell to good balls though the wicket was playing well. Sachin Tendulkar- Rahul Dravid- Sourav Ganguly all fell to good balls so you cannot do anything about it and they Sri Lanka have quality bowlers.

Sehwag said after the 1st days play in which India lost its four batsmen within the space of 10 runs but the opener who was unbeaten at 128 at close said I think 350 to 400 runs should be a good total on this wicket. On his secret of clobbering Ajantha Mendis Sehwag said he picked the mystery bowler rather early. On whether Dravid was out after it looked having hit the helmet Sehwag said he could not pick it though he too thought so and I don`t know because I was on the non strikers end and could not pick it up. I was in doubt whether the ball had hit or hot. But I felt it had hit the helmet. I feel if they Sri Lankans had known about it then it was not the right spirit of Sri Lankans. If the Sri lankan had knew it then I think they should have played with the right spirit and said that the ball had hit of helmet. We were in a good position. The 1st wicket partnership was around 167 runs and then we lost four wickets. These things happen in a Test match. It happens so many times but you cannot do anything Sehwag said. On whether Gambhir was out after the review took a long time in taking a decision Sehwag said earlier he thought it could have missed the stumps but they replays showed otherwise. I thought it was a googly and then it could have been on the off stump also because sometimes it becomes difficult for the umpires to pick. But then it struck on the middle stump. We just took a chance to avail of the review system he said. Sehwag said the loss of four hours of play did not have any bearing on him. There was no impact on my batting after delay of four hours and but every batsmen plays with a different mindset. Maybe some other batsmen could have been affected by it. But I was just playing my shots.
