Kaneria Said I am Proper Leg Spinner

July 18th, 2008

 Danish kaneria, selectors, England

Tired of being overlooked by the selectors Pakistani leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is toying with the idea of switching side and playing for England. The 27 year old leg spinner said he has enough cricket in him and he would not hesitate to switch sides if Pakistan continues to ignore him. I may consider playing for England at one stage if Pakistan are not picking me Kaneria told reporters. I am 27 and a proper leg-spinner gets his real class when he is 32 Shane Warne got to his 30s and was bowling out every team so I have plenty of years to go said the spinner who plays for Essex in county cricket. Unsure of what future has in store for him Kaneria said I don`t know what will happen and will see how Pakistan cope with me. If England wanted me to play and do something for them I would think it over. Kaneria did not find a place in Pakistans list of 30 probables for the Champions Trophy but the leg-spinner still yearns for a recall in the ODI squad. I didn`t hear anything from Pakistan. I am doing well and taking wickets and would like to play 1 day cricket for Pakistan again he said. I have not given up and want to get my place back in the team. I play well in each form of the game but when Pakistan don`t pick me it is up to the media to ask the selectors why said Kaneria. An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson told the newspaper that Kaneria would be eligible if he gains a British citizenship and refrains from playing in or for Pakistan.

Pakistani Selectors want to include more

Pakistani selectors are in a dilemma ahead of tomorrow’s final one-dayer against Zimbabwe as they want to blood a few more youngsters in the dead rubber but are also keen that the hosts complete a whitewash in front of an audience that will include President Pervez Musharraf. Chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed told ‘The News’ on Thursday that the selection committee is looking forward to fielding a couple of more rookies in last one-dayer here at the National Stadium. “We’ve been trying out youngsters in the current series after having done that against Zimbabwe (earlier this year),” said the former Test cricketer. “Our team is already 4-0 up in the series and it’s an excellent opportunity to introduce some fresh faces and check out their skills and temperament,” he pointed. Bangladesh may not be a very strong side but a whitewash against them will come as a morale-booster for our team which is facing a couple of important assignments later this year,” he said. Pakistan are to host the Asia Cup this summer followed by their biggest assignment of the year — the ICC Champions Trophy — which is also scheduled to be held here in September. Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan is back after missing the previous two games. He was included in the squad for the final one-dayer after the Karachi-based batsman informed the selectors about his availability. Younis is all set to play tomorrow while prolific Karachi batsman Naumanullah is likely to make his One-Day International debut in front of his home crowd. The selectors have dropped fast bowler Sohail Khan and are expected to introduce 22-year-old Lahore pacer Wahab Riaz in the attack. Young wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed is also in line to stretch his nascent international career, coming in place of the in-form Kamran Akmal.
