- Dilshan Back In Form
Sri Lanka lead by 472 runs with six second innings wickets intact after day three of the second Test in Chittagong.
Bangladesh were set 521 to win the first match in Dhaka and are likely to be asked to chase an even bigger target after a day the tourists dominated with the bat.
Resuming on 13-0, Sri Lanka made steady progress despite losing three wickets in the afternoon session, Thilan Samaraweera and first innings centurion Tillekaratne Dilshan restored order with an unbeaten partnership of 131 to leave their side in a commanding position.
Openers Prasanna Jayawardene and Malinda Warnapura took the total to 55 before both lost their wickets in the space of three deliveries.
Jayawardene perished for 28 when he chipped a Mohammad Ashraful delivery to short midwicket, where Shakib Al Hasan dived forward to take a fairly easy catch.
Warnapura then joined him in the pavilion at the start of the next over when he was trapped lbw by Shahadat Hossain for 27.
Kumar Sangakkara and skipper Mahela Jayawardene were initially watchful as they took their side to lunch on 95-2, and their stand was worth 68 when Enamul Haque Jnr broke the partnership - Jayawardene (22) chipping a catch to Imrul Kayes at cover.
But Sangakkara kept the scoreboard ticking over and reached his 28th Test fifty with a boundary off Haque Jnr, but Ashraful claimed his second wicket when he found a way through the left-hander’s defence.
But that was as good as it got for the hosts, who found Samaraweera and Dilshan at their most obdurate.
Both struck nine boundaries as they passed their half-centuries, with Dilshan once again coping best with the conditions after his heroic 162 in the first innings.
Dilshan had reached 81 by the close, with his partner unbeaten on 72, as Sri Lanka closed on 296 for four.

- Shoaib Malik
KARACHI: Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik said Sunday his team were disappointed about India’s cancellation of a much-anticipated tour here but were keen to face “tough” replacements Sri Lanka.
India last week pulled out of their January tour of Pakistan over the Mumbai attacks, forcing the hosts to arrange a stop-gap series with Sri Lanka.
“We are disappointed that India decided not to tour us,” Malik told reporters. “India has been doing well so it would have been a good series, but Sri Lanka is also a good team and we are ready for them.”
“When India and Pakistan play each other, there is huge public interest in both countries, but that will now not come about,” he added.
Sri Lanka have agreed to a tour that will include three Tests, three one-dayers and a Twenty20 match. The tour is expected to begin after Sri Lanka complete a tour of Bangladesh on January 16.
Shoaib Malik, who was appointed captain last year, said his team would have to play its best cricket to defeat Sri Lanka.
“We have not been playing much international cricket so we have to do a lot of hard work, while Sri Lanka have been doing well at the international level and will be tough opponents,” he said.
Malik said he hoped more international teams would follow in Sri Lanka’s footsteps.
“Their visit will give us some good cricket and hopefully more teams will come to Pakistan in the future,” he said.
Malik singled out sensational Sri Lankan spinner Ajantah Mendis as his team’s main challenge.
“Sri Lanka have two quality spinners in Muttiah Muralitharan and Mendis, but we have played Murali a number of times and now need to master Mendis, who has been doing very well,”the Captain said.

Test series already having slipped out of Indias fingers ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday feels losing Sachin Tendulkar ahead of the one dayers against Sri Lanka could be crucial for the team. Losing Sachin Tendulkar at this point of time can be crucial. It is very difficult to fill the space when it comes to Sachin.
He not only contributes with the bat and the ball his impact in the dressing room is great Dhoni told reporters on his arrival. Players look up to him and he always come up with brilliant suggestion and advices on the field as well. Talent wise and advice point of view it is very difficult to fill in his space he said. Tendulkar who jarred his left elbow while fielding in the third and final Test has been ruled out of the ODI series after he was prescribed three-week rest. Dhoni, however challenged his younger team members grab the opportunity to make a mark at this level. At the same time cricket goes on. It is upto the guys who have been given a chance over here to perform and to prove that they are good enough for international cricket at times we have seen that when such a thing arises in the international scenario the youngsters come up they accept the responsibility and they take it as a challenge. Hopefully, it will be great to see someone who has just made his mark in the international level to really perform at the top he said. It is one of the toughest places to play cricket. It is not easy. You don’t really see loads of runs in the one-dayers because the wickets are quite slow. You have to work for your runs. It will be interesting.

Not willing to blame the batsmen for the sudden Indian batting collapse Indian Vice Captain Virendra Sehwag today said all the batsmen fell to good balls though the wicket was playing well. Sachin Tendulkar- Rahul Dravid- Sourav Ganguly all fell to good balls so you cannot do anything about it and they Sri Lanka have quality bowlers.
Sehwag said after the 1st days play in which India lost its four batsmen within the space of 10 runs but the opener who was unbeaten at 128 at close said I think 350 to 400 runs should be a good total on this wicket. On his secret of clobbering Ajantha Mendis Sehwag said he picked the mystery bowler rather early. On whether Dravid was out after it looked having hit the helmet Sehwag said he could not pick it though he too thought so and I don`t know because I was on the non strikers end and could not pick it up. I was in doubt whether the ball had hit or hot. But I felt it had hit the helmet. I feel if they Sri Lankans had known about it then it was not the right spirit of Sri Lankans. If the Sri lankan had knew it then I think they should have played with the right spirit and said that the ball had hit of helmet. We were in a good position. The 1st wicket partnership was around 167 runs and then we lost four wickets. These things happen in a Test match. It happens so many times but you cannot do anything Sehwag said. On whether Gambhir was out after the review took a long time in taking a decision Sehwag said earlier he thought it could have missed the stumps but they replays showed otherwise. I thought it was a googly and then it could have been on the off stump also because sometimes it becomes difficult for the umpires to pick. But then it struck on the middle stump. We just took a chance to avail of the review system he said. Sehwag said the loss of four hours of play did not have any bearing on him. There was no impact on my batting after delay of four hours and but every batsmen plays with a different mindset. Maybe some other batsmen could have been affected by it. But I was just playing my shots.

The world champions of 50 overs cricket and the test cricket no. 1 ranked team Australia is showing no mercy to Srilankans. The Australian batsmen continue to pile the scores. This second match seems to be the recap of first test match.
On a pitch that remained good for batting, Hussey’s morning session was unusually subdued, bar a slog-swept six off Muralitharan, before striking out after rain delays in the afternoon. Fernando, bowling slower because of an ankle complaint, continued to toil and finally brought down the curtain on Hussey’s back-to-back hundreds for 132.
Sri Lanka is really have to work hard to avoid follow on. The Australian pace attackers will create difficulty for the guest team.
